Being taxed doesn't bother me as much as some other forms of government compulsion, I suppose because it limits what I can do, rather than forcing me to do anything in particular. And if the money is used in certain ways, I think it can create a world I'd rather live in.

I'd rather live in a world where people who don't make much money can still get decent health care and child care, for example. I just think that's a preferable world.

I have nothing but skepticism toward federal government intervention in public schools, but I think there are some things that the federal government does well. I think the G.I. Bill was a very positive thing, for example. But I do think it's usually smart to focus on the worst-case implementation scenarios when evaluating a federal government intervention in education.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07559356125770114400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285353362748898720.post-32522924017654328112013-02-16T00:40:57.126-06:002013-02-16T00:40:57.126-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05115362830792436351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285353362748898720.post-60444331942721600912013-02-15T23:38:35.766-06:002013-02-15T23:38:35.766-06:00Billy -- I can't deny that taxation is ultimat...Billy -- I can't deny that taxation is ultimately enforced by state violence. But so are laws against murder and theft, etc. I'm unable to conceive of how property could meaningfully exist without a state to protect and enforce it, so it doesn't bother me if people decide democratically to tax that property to enable the state to function. And the more progessively it's taxed, the less it bothers me. Even libertarians support some taxation, no?Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07559356125770114400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8285353362748898720.post-5992833839340783232013-02-03T10:55:10.273-06:002013-02-03T10:55:10.273-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05115362830792436351noreply@blogger.com
