Democrats block Smarter Balanced

State Senate Democrats announced last night that they would block the Smarter Balanced Assessments in order to ensure the availability of adequate state supplemental school aid for years to come. This clip from the press conference is really incredible. That’s the kind of party that can start winning statewide elections again.

Sorry, everyone. I was afraid I might never get the chance to write those words if I didn’t do it on April 1. (And in fairness: Although a Republican administration is pushing Smarter Balanced, at least eleven Republican representatives have publicly opposed it. Can’t say the same, to my knowledge, for the Democrats.)

I thought about announcing my school board candidacy instead, but I figured that would just be asking for trouble.

I would love for you to announce your candidacy for the school board, Chris. Go for it! We need to replace the entire board, so I'm hoping others will run as well.

Julie and Maria -- Thanks, I'm flattered. I don't see that happening, though. I'm hopeful that we'll have some good candidates to vote for.

Hmmmm, sufficient signatures could be gathered and the forms placed in your hands for your signature and then what would you do?
